CAPE TOWN JAZZATHON – held mid-January. This popular open-air jazz festival is staged on Cape Town’s Waterfront and attracts huge crowds.

J & B MET – held at the end of January at Kenilworth Racecourse, this renowned horse racing event is one of South Africa’s best, with plenty of money to be won and lost. and a chance to see the latest in haute couture.

TABLE MOUNTAIN SUNSET SPECIAL January & February – Half price tickets from 6pm until the end of February 12. Last cable car 8pm.

CAPE TOWN GAY PRIDE 24 February to 4 March - Gay Pride Festival – held mid-February. A fun packed festival which takes place over 10 days and includes the Pride Parade as its grand finale.

helderberg wine festival

Thirty-five great wineries from Stellenbosch and Somerset West have joined forces to offer the 4th Helderberg Wine Festival.

With 35 wineries participating in the 2011 Helderberg Wine Festival in the Somerset West/Stellenbosch area from Thursday, 20 October to Sunday, 23 October, visitors are once again guaranteed a range of activities at each cellar for young and old.

As the rugby world cup is ending over the weekend, many wineries have taken advantage of the excitement to put up large screens for the Friday and Sunday games and offer various breakfast options, braai’s and other entertainment around each game.

Other highlights this year include the i-phone Art Expo at Waterkloof Winery by Stellenbosch-based artist and designer Sumi Gous, the 8000-bottle landscape art installation at Equitania Wines off the Bredell Rd by internationally renowned artist Strijdom van der Merwe, the Photographic Bird Watch Walk at Wedderwill Wines on Sunday and the family-orientated Tractor Rides between Blaauwklippen, Chabivin and Cape Hutton on the weekend.
